Family photos. They are something that I said I wanted to have done each year when my husband and I began having kids. I loved the idea of seeing our kids change and our family grow through the years. How dreamlike, right? Our kids will always go willingly and wear the perfect clothes we have picked out for them, they will let you style their hair just right with the matching headbands, they will be completely rested and in great moods. Sounds easy, right? Ha! I know I had you all dreaming along with me there.
Family photo shoots can be one of the most stressful things you encounter each year. The fact that your 4-year-old says her dress looks ugly and she'd rather wear her Princess Belle nightgown, your kids fought naps that day so everyone is tired and grumpy, you have to get each kid dressed and pray that they stay stain free for the next half hour, and then, oh yeah, you actually have to do your hair and makeup! Whew, it makes me tired replaying all the before action! How in the world do you get family photos that look great, really capture who each child is and not kill each other in the process? A good photographer, that’s what makes the difference.
This year, Amy Marburger owner of Plum Perfect Photography, was kind enough to take up the job of photographing my family. It was a hard job to take on this year. My 4-year-old was fighting what we thought was just a cold (it then turned into pneumonia, poor girl) and was in no mood to take pictures. Amy was so patient and kind with her, it was incredible. She was able to joke around with her and give her some space when she just needed to snuggle with one of us or during the times when she was crying, growling, screaming, or a combination of the previously listed things.
In addition to being sensitive to our little lady’s needs, Amy was great at directing different shots and suggesting poses for us to do. She let us just “be ourselves” to get some natural shots of us playing together and offered many helpful tips along the way. Amy made each person in my family feel comfortable, which is extremely important when you have kids! We loved having our family photos with her and despite the difficult circumstances, she was able to get phenomenal shots of my family that I will cherish for many years to come!

P.S. Get a picture with just you and your spouse, if possible. Those are always some of my favorites :)
