August ELANCO Library Events

The Eastern Lancaster County Library is located at 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, PA. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday. Most events are free but require advance registration. Preschool Lab: A STEM Storytime

Thursdays, August 1 and 8 at 10:30 a.m.
For Ages 3-6, Siblings are welcome!

We will tinker and play while we learn about different STEM topics. Every program will start with a few books and end with an activity, such as games, crafts, or even toys.


Duplo Free Play

Thursdays: August 1 to August 29 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Ages 1-5, Siblings are welcome!

Drop in for a free building time with Duplos and Mega Blocks! All toys will appropriate for 1 to 5 year-olds.


Friday Frolic for Toddlers

Fridays: August 2, 9, 16, & 23 at 10:30 a.m.
For walking toddlers ages 1-3 with a caregiver

Get ready to move! Toddlers will dance, zoom, scoot and hop between stories selected to promote language development. All adults are expected to participate and encourage the children to join in the fun.


Stay and Play

Fridays: August 2, 9, 16, & 23 at 11 a.m.
For Toddlers & Preschoolers

A few minutes after the Friday Frolic for Toddlers ends, we’ll bring out the BIG BOX of toys! Stay and play with us until lunch time!


Teen After-Hours: Mandala Painting

Friday, August 2 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
For Grades 6-12

Space is limited and registration is required for this event; there is a $5 materials fee.
Wendy from Inspire Me Design Co. will be coming in to help you step by step to create a beautiful piece of mandala art. All materials are included for this class.


Therapy Dogs Visit the Library

Saturday, August 3 at 10:30 a.m.
Family Event for All Ages

Kids are invited to improve their reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a therapy dog. The dogs and handlers are from K-Pets.


Dungeons and Dragons Club

Saturday, August 3 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Thursday, August 15 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
For Ages 10 and up

During the summer, we will be offering two different sessions. The original session on Thursdays has been extended. Food will be provided. This is a club for people who love to play this tabletop role-playing game! Never played before? You’re welcome to join us and find out more about D&D.


One-on-One Tech Help

Saturdays, August 3 and 17 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Free Tech Help with any device, tablet, or computer that you may need help with. To register, for this event please call 717-354-0525 or stop by the library. Walk-ins are welcomed, but not guaranteed an appointment.


Lunch and Anime

Monday, August 5 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Grades 6-12

Pack a lunch and watch some anime at the library!


Maker Monday

Monday, August 5 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
For Ages 3+

Come join us at the Library with some crafts and activities! We will be doing activities based on the theme of “A Universe of Stories.”


Readers’ Roundtable Book Discussion

Monday, August 5 at 6:30 p.m.
Adult Event

The Readers’ Roundtable meets in the downstairs board room of the ELANCO Library. In August, we’ll be discussing A Bridge Across the Ocean by Susan Meissner. Everyone is invited to join us!


Storytime with Hank- Feelings!

Tuesday, August 6 at 10:30 a.m.
For Ages 0-7

Hank is having a bad day. Join us for this 45 minute storytime and find out why. The lovable puppet Hank and his friend will be reading a special book all about feelings. Even an unhappy Hank emerges heroic once he learns little tricks that help him manage his big feelings.


Play K- Kindergarten Readiness

Tuesdays, August 6, & 13 at 1 p.m.
For Children Entering Kindergarten in Fall 2019

Get ready for Kindergarten! Preschoolers are invited to play and learn the needed skills for Kindergarten success. This program is made available by the Cruise into Kindergarten initiative through Pennsylvania Public Libraries.


Teen Tuesdays

Tuesdays: August 6, 13, 20, & 27 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
For grades 6-12

Teens are invited to chill out, hang out and geek out in the library this summer.


Fun N Sun Splash Party

Wednesday, August 7 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
For Ages 0-6

We will be outside and playing with water, so wear sunscreen and a bathing suit! We will have chalk, popsicles, bubbles and music! If it rains, there is no rain date.


Chopped!

Wednesday, August 7 at 3 p.m.
For Grades 1 and up

Space is limited. Registration is required for this event. All the seriousness, but all the fun! Kids will compete on who has the best dish! No actual cooking required.


Stuffed Animal Sleepover Drop-Off

Friday, August 9 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday, August 10 at 9:30 a.m.
For All Ages

Drop off your stuffed animal on Friday, August 9 between 11am and 5pm. Your stuffie will spend the night at the library and have all kinds of adventures! Join us Saturday morning at 9:30am for a light breakfast and we’ll view a slideshow of what the stuffed animals did all night. Register for the breakfast in person when you drop off your animal!


Summer Storytime

Tuesdays: August 13, 20, & 27 at 10:30 a.m.
For ages 3-8 but all ages welcome!

Join us this summer for books, songs, rhymes, movement activities, or a craft based on our Summer Reading Program theme- Universe of Stories! Have bunches of fun while building language and literacy skills!


Lego® Creation Club

Monday, August 12 at 6:30 p.m.
Family event for ages 3 and up

Join our Lego® Design Team! Once a month, we’ll build creations out of Lego® Bricks that will be displayed in the Library.


Hooks & Needles: Yarn Crafting Club

All Ages Welcome

Our knitting club is open to all knitters and crocheters in all skill levels...even absolute beginners! Our experts can teach you how to start your first project. Bring your own projects, tips, and ideas to share.


Baby Food Taste Testing

Twinkling Stars

Wednesday, August 14 at 10:30 a.m.
For Ages 0-2, Siblings are welcome!

At this baby lapsit, you and your child will sing, play games, discover new rhymes, and read fun books. Because babies learn by practicing activities over and over again, our lapsits always include plenty of repetition to create new brain pathways for language and literacy.


Lego Mini Golf

Wednesday, August 14 at 3 p.m.
For Ages 5+

We will be playing Lego Mini Golf! It will be tiny. Your putter will be a popsicle and your golf ball will be a marble.


Block Party- Preschool STEM Event

Thursday, August 15 at 6:30 p.m.
For Ages 3-6

Come build with wooden blocks! Wooden blocks teach math and engineering schools –even to preschoolers!


Teen After-Hours: Fandom

Friday, August 16 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
For Grades 6-12

Registration is required for this event. Join us for cosplay, snacks and games! Prizes for the best cosplay! Don’t want to dress up? That’s okay! Come for the food and friends.


Alien Invasion

Saturday, August 17 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
For Ages 3+

Create your own alien with recycled materials! Drop in anytime between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.


SaturGames

Saturday, August 17 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
For Grades 5 and up

We will have the Switch, Wii, and Xbox out for anyone to play. Snacks will be provided.


Lost in Space

Monday, August 19 at 6:30 p.m.
For Grades K-6

Our mission is to exit the solar system. Do you accept this mission? We will watch a short video, learn about some books you might be interested in, and “survive” our trip out of the solar system.


Free Play: Letters

Wednesday, August 21 at 10:30 a.m.
For Ages 2-5

Drop-in to explore letters! We will have activities and worksheets for you to take home.

Each week offers opportunities for children to play with developmentally appropriate toys in a play group atmosphere. Parents will have the chance to meet and question community experts in the areas of child development, nutrition, and music.
